This Guided Listening Training Material is designed to improve your skill in writing advanced sentences, which is a required skill at the highest difficulties of the Linguaskill General Writing test.

While using this training material, you should extend your learning by writing down the vocabulary and grammar structures encountered in the questions and answers.

Question 1

I put on my sports clothes.
I tie my shoes.
I feel excited.

(A) Join all three sentences into one longer sentence.


I put on my sports clothes, tie my shoes, and feel excited as the game approaches.

(B) Now, rewrite the longer sentence using different words. You may change the sentence structure. Try to use as many words as you can.


After carefully putting on my sports clothes and tightening my shoes, a surge of excitement rushes through me as I prepare to step onto the field.

I walk through the gates.
I see the big field.
I like the view.

(A) Join all three sentences into one longer sentence.


Walking through the gates and seeing the big field, I enjoy the view and feel ready.

(B) Now, rewrite the longer sentence using different words. You may change the sentence structure. Try to use as many words as you can.


As I walk through the gates and catch sight of the vast field before me, I’m struck by how impressive the view is under the bright lights.

I stretch my arms.
I run slowly.
I feel strong.

(A) Join all three sentences into one longer sentence.


As I stretch my arms and run slowly, I start to feel strong and focused.

(B) Now, rewrite the longer sentence using different words. You may change the sentence structure. Try to use as many words as you can.


Stretching my arms and jogging at an easy pace, I feel my body awaken, ready to face the physical challenge ahead.

I run fast.
I pass the ball.
I think the game is fun.

I run fast and pass the ball, thinking the game is fun and exciting.

(B) Now, rewrite the longer sentence using different words. You may change the sentence structure. Try to use as many words as you can.


While sprinting across the pitch and passing the ball to my teammates, I find myself completely absorbed in the thrill of the game.

I kick the ball.
It goes into the net.
I feel proud.

I kick the ball into the net and feel proud of what I’ve done.

The moment the ball hits the net, a wave of pride washes over me, making the intense effort worthwhile.

I stand with my friends.
I wave a flag.
I love the energy.

Standing with my friends and waving a flag, I love the energy around us.

Standing among friends and waving our flags, I’m overwhelmed by the electric energy that spreads through the crowd.

Question 7

I drink some water.
I talk to my teammates.
I feel tired.

(A) Join all three sentences into one longer sentence.


While I drink some water and talk to my teammates, I feel tired but happy.

(B) Now, rewrite the longer sentence using different words. You may change the sentence structure. Try to use as many words as you can.


Drinking water and chatting with teammates, I let exhaustion settle in, satisfied by the effort we’ve all put in.

I watch videos.
I practise in the park.
I want to get better.

(A) Join all three sentences into one longer sentence.


I watch videos and practise in the park because I want to get better.

(B) Now, rewrite the longer sentence using different words. You may change the sentence structure. Try to use as many words as you can.


By analysing videos and practising regularly, I push myself to refine my techniques and reach a higher level of performance.
